Ms. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw
A successful technocrat of global standing, Ms. Shaw heads Asia’s largest Biopharmaceutical enterprise, Biocon. She is highly respected in the corporate world and has made it to the 2010 Times list of the world’s 100 Most Influential People. Ms Shaw was also featured on the Forbes list of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women”. Her pioneering efforts in biotechnology have drawn global recognition both for Indian Industry and Biocon.
Ms Shaw chairs Karnataka’s Vision Group on Biotechnology and several other Government Boards both at the state level and at the Centre. She is a proud Bangalorean and actively engages herself with various civic initiatives that focus on better governance and improved infrastructure. Ms. Shaw is an active member of Bangalore City Connect where she has engaged closely with the Government of Karnataka on road improvement and garbage management.
Ms. Shaw is also a recognized philanthropist who has featured on Forbes’ list of leading Philanthropists in the world. Her philanthropy has been directed towards healthcare and education where her most noteworthy contribution has been The Mazumdar-Shaw Cancer Center in Bangalore whose driving mission is affordable cancer care.
Ms. Shaw is the recipient of several prestigious national and international awards of which her most cherished are PADMA SHREE (1989) and PADMA BHUSHAN (2005).
She is married to John Shaw, an indophile Scotsman who was former Chairman & Managing Director of Madura Coats. He is now Vice Chairman of Biocon and a resident Bangalorean committed to city improvement initiatives to make Bangalore better.
